My definition of success.

Two days ago I watched amazing ted talk with researcher and storyteller Brené Brown titled: “Why your critics aren’t the ones who count”. I absolutely loved it. I watched a few more videos with her and to me she is a very inspiring strong woman. While I was watching it one of my flat mates came to the kitchen and asked me what I am watching. I responded: “A very successful woman talking about an important topic to me.”. The question the person asked me is pretty obvious: ” So do you want to be a successful woman?”. My response to it was pretty shocking to the person asking, as well as to me actually. I said: “Well, I am. In a way.”. Of course I got a strange look back and a few more questions about it and that conversation would last very long and would be pretty interesting if I was talking to someone who understands something about what mindset means. Later on that made me think about the whole idea and definition of success. It means completely different things to different people. To me it used to mean a great career and having a lot of money only. I am glad I have come to realisation that it means much more than that. To be more specific success itself has nothing to do with money or career.

Long story short: I arrived in England over 3 years ago thinking I will stay for one year, save some money, go back to Poland, do my driving license and go to USA for one year. That was the idea. Then – life happened, 3 years have gone by, I am still in England with no plan of moving to different country, still no driving licence (😂) and still at the very beginning of my “career”. Here is the important question! How can I say that I am successful in that case?! Well, I can. It is all about counting every single victory in life, the little ones and the big ones. I look back at who I was in high school, then later when I started working, then when I moved to UK, one year ago and now… most people who knew me back then would not recognise me today and for me it is hard to believe sometimes as well how much I have changed, how many fears and insecurities I have overcome to date. It took many mistakes and many right choices, people who where right and wrong for me, love and heartbreaks, true and fake friendships, a lot of hard work and much more. When I look back at all this, I know I can say with no doubt I am successful.

My idea and definition of success:

Look back at your life and compare who you are today with who you were a few years, few months and few weeks ago. You will see how much you have overcome and that is your success. Once you realise that you start believing deeply in your mind and your heart that you are already successful and with that and hard work you can achieve anything you want in your life. ❤️
